EN 342
MASCOT products which are certified in accordance with EN 342:2017, guarantee you a high degree of protection against the cold.
Clothing that is certified in accordance with EN 342:2017 is guaranteed to keep you well protected from the cold. Proper clothing is essential when working in cold environments, as it is important that you stay protected and warm. A cold environment is characterised by a temperature of -5 °C or lower, measured not just on the basis of air temperature, but with consideration paid to humidity and wind as well. If it is very windy, you may need a higher degree of insulation, even if the actual temperature remains unchanged. It is important that your workwear stays dry, as its ability to protect can become impaired when it gets wet. In order to improve protection against the cold and prevent local cooling, it is also important to wear warm clothing on your hands and feet, as well as warm headgear. It is also important that your clothing is zipped up and kept tight around openings, such as the wrists, for example.
Each product with EN 342:2017 certification is individually certified in accordance with different classes. These classes describe the thermal insulation value, air permeability and, if applicable, the waterproofness of the product. The letter Y on the side of an EN 342:2017 pictogram indicates the thermal insulation value. On MASCOT products, this information won't be presented beside the symbol. Instead, it is generally stated above the product information section. Insulation value is usually expressed in Icler, but here at MASCOT, we convert Icler values into clo, with one clo being equivalent to 0.155 m2K/W. Air permeability is represented by the letters AP and can fall into one of three different classes, with three being the highest. That is to say that a class three product will give you the best possible protection against cold air passing through the material and onto the body. The figure for this will be stated to the right of the certification symbol. Waterproofness is represented by the letters WP and will only appear if the product is waterproof. If the product is waterproof, then you will be able to find the letters WP on the certification symbol.
You can extend the protectiveness and durability of your workwear by storing it in a dry place and caring for it in accordance with the washing instructions label on the garment.
